Birdwatching Paradise

The Daintree Valley contains 225 recorded species and an early morning birdwatching cruise on the Daintree River, view up to 50 species of birds in a single cruise including Great Billed Heron, Black Bittern, Little Tern and Beach Stone Curlew. Visit our dedicated bird watching site with a lot more info on birds and birdwatching tours

Half and full day birdwatching safaris throughout the Daintree and adjacent regions are available. Australian Kingfishers are abundant locally, with 9 of the 10 species found in the Daintree, and it is not uncommon to find a Buff Breasted Kingfisher perched on a balcony railing, or tree branch, within the Lodge area as spring approaches.

The rare Wompoo Fruit Dove is frequently on site at Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa hence the use of the bird in the company logo. The abundance of Ylang Ylang Trees attract many of these birds to the property. The Ylang Ylang oil is a common ingredient in the Daintree Spa Treatments and the base for the well known Chanel No. 5. The Wompoo Fruit Dove feeds on ripened fruit high in the canopy and often is first revealed by his distinct call or falling fruit.
